The newest addition to Darling Harbour’s growing vibrancy is finally open – say hello to the waterside Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour! The first international luxury hotel to open in the area in over a decade, the Sofitel Darling Harbour boasts 35 stories, nearly 600 guestrooms, and gorgeous views of the city and harbour to swoon over.
Better yet, as part of their grand opening celebration, the hotel is offering a special package priced from $529, which includes a night in a Superior Darling Harbour View* room, access to the breakfast buffet and Champagne Bar, a late checkout, and more. The Sofitel is the first of more than 40 additional hotels planned to open in Australia over the next five years in order to support the country’s booming tourism industry.
Sofitel Darling Harbour is a work of art. The design of the building itself was thoughtfully put together by Richard Francis-Jones, award-winning architect of Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp architects, with collaboration from A+ Design Group and Dreamtime Australia Design. Taking inspiration from the clans of the Eora nation, Sofitel Darling Harbour provides feelings of warmth with its red ochre and blue colour scheme, and the strikingly original triangular accents are truly unique. And that’s just the exterior – the interior evokes a sense of heritage with the use of timber, rope, and sandstone in its design. Combined with modern architectural ideas, the atmosphere is one of warmth and welcome.
Sofitel Darling Harbour offers three bars, but perhaps the most elegant is The Champagne Bar, the largest of its type in Sydney. A variety of champagne labels can be found here, from Canard-Duchene to Pommery, so every bubbly connoisseur is catered for – even the person willing to go next-level indulgent on a $22,000 Jeroboam of Cristal Brut, encased in a 24 carat gold bottle that took four days to craft… as you do.
The third floor of the hotel is home to its biggest dining drawcard, Atelier by Sofitel, which boasts the use of the best local produce to construct signature dishes inspired by Sofitel’s French heritage.
With some of the best views in the area, Sofitel Darling Harbour has 35 suites among their 590 rooms, featuring soaking tubs, double shower heads, and in-bathroom televisions to provide the most luxurious experience possible. Club Sofitel rooms on the highest floors of the building show the most spectacular views , and the Club Millesime Lounge on the top floor will make you feel like you’ve hit the jackpot, with a variety of special services on offer to cater to guests’ needs.
Thanks to the Sofitel brand’s French heritage, with each Sofitel built around the world, it reflects elements of a city in France, and for Sydney’s Sofitel Darling Harbour, that city is the colourful coastal city of Marseille, with its dynamic energy, beautiful harbours, and industrial ports.
The Sydney hotel also has its own signature elements, and special events like Sofitel Wine Days – which give people the opportunity to experience French wine and art throughout an entire month – will be on the cards as the hotel settles into its Darling Harbour location.
In the meantime, see you at the rooftop infinity pool!
